Here in Guadalajara we have similar old carriages, we call them "Calandrias". I've never traveled in one of those, but they're very popular for the tourists, you can get a ride around downtown to take pictures and look around without the need to drive or get tired for walking.

I have never tried the Calandrias either. Would be nice to get a ride around Guadalajara's downtown but I feel guilty watching that poor horses.

That's right, I feel sorry for them too. But is a tradition, I don't think we can change it easily.

Personally I'd rather to take the "Tapatío bus" is a double-decker bus that also give you a ride to downtown and some other interesting places. I think that would be fun too.
