Thanks:-) Renaissance italian, probably.

MEZZ suggests mezzogiorno (12am), some others are less obvious while TRAM at 6 could be tramonto (sunset) MAES at 5 could suggest Maestrale, a wind.

I wasn't paying attention that there are just 8 named positions not 12. A strange clock, indeed. I have to wonder if it's a clock at all.

Most likely they are all names for winds in italian or an ancient variant or maybe latin: Libeccio at 1.30, Ponente at 3, Maestrale at 4.30, Tramontana at 6, unknown GREC at 7.30, Levante at 9, Scirocco at 10.30, MEZZ I wouldn't know.
